The Youth Staff are responsible for the innovative and creative programs that have become the hallmark of Jewish Youth in San Diego.

Our dynamic programs are the result of superb planning, meticulous execution and attention to detail.

We all appreciate the fine example that our Youth Staff have set for our youth.

Youth Staff

Daniel Brenner is Director of Youth Programs at Beth Israel

danielisraelDaniel started working at Congregation Beth Israel in June of 2011.  He previously worked as a youth advisor and high school teacher at Temple Beth Torah in Ventura, and taught hebrew at Temple Judea, University Synagogue, and Beth Shir Sholom.  He has also worked at Camp Alonim and Camp Newman, among other camps, as a songleader. 

Daniel grew up in Ventura, CA, where Rabbi Berk was his childhood rabbi.  After his Bar Mitzvah, he became very involved in Temple Beth Torah's youth group.  He also was an active member of NFTY, where he served on the Regional Board as the Religious and Cultural Vice-President. He has travelled to Israel twice, both times studying hebrew at an Ulpan in Jerusalem.

In May of this year, Daniel graduated from American Jewish University with a degree in political science, focused in Israeli and Middle East politics.  In his spare time, he enjoys playing music, reading, and watching sports.

Rabbi Michael Satz is Beth Israel's Assistant Rabbi

Rabbi Miachael Satz joined CBI as assistant rabbi in July 2009. He was ordained at the Cincinnati campus of Hebrew Union College in 2007 and previously served Congregation M’kor Shalom in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Rabbi Satz has experience engaging young adults to participate in Jewish life. He enjoys working with youth and has taught Confirmation, advised youth groups, and has led a Confirmation trip to Israel. 

Rabbi Satz grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans where he majored in Jewish studies and international relations. He plays guitar, including a stint as lead guitarist in his rabbinical school rock band, The Minor Prophets. He is married to Rabbi Janice Elster, previously the Jewish student life coordinator at Hillel at the University of Pennsylvania.

Most Saturdays Congregation Beth Israel holds Shabbat services in the mornings at 10:00 a.m. and afternoons at 4:00 p.m. in our beautiful Glickman-Galinson sanctuary. These services celebrate the Bar/Bat Mitzvahs of our members and are open to the entire community. Please join us and celebrate Shabbat!
