Michelle Berkowitz Is CBI's Youth Director
   
Michelle Berkowitz
Michelle Berkowitz has joined the CBI staff as Youth Director. Michelle formerly served as Guidance Counselor for the Beth Israel Day School, a position she began in August of 2004.

As Youth Director, Michelle is advisor to NOAR, the 6-8 Grade group, works administratively with the CBI High School, and continues to develop new and exciting programs for the youth of CBI. Among her first projects was the move, expansion and updating of the Jackie Novak Youth Lounge within CBI’s campus and the rejuvenation of our Teen Services, held concurrently with our Family Services. She has also initiated a college counseling program for CBI teens.

Michelle earned her Master's in Educational Counseling at National University in San Diego. Her B.A., from UCSD, is in Human Development with a minor in Theater. She also holds a College Counseling Certificate from UCSD.

She was raised in Los Angeles, where she attended the Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School, affiliated with the Reform Movement, through the 7th Grade. She continued her Jewish education through Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation and was also an active member of USY. Judaism has always been an important part of her life.

Prior to her tenure at CBI, Michelle worked in various capacities at the Polinsky School, part of the Polinsky Children's Center, a 24-hour emergency shelter for abused, abandoned or neglected youth.

Michelle was married in April 2004. She and her husband, Kevin, enjoy traveling, dancing, going to the theater, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Michelle is currently on maternity leave and due to return in the spring of 2008.
