Youth Lounge Gets a Summer Make-Over
Summer may be a time to kick back and relax for many, but for the Jackie Novak Youth Lounge it was a time for lots of of hard work. Walls came out and windows went in as remodeling opened up the office space inside the lounge. A brightly colored mural added the final touch to the big room. Thanks to Michelle Berkowitz and the dedicated volunteers who designed, moved furniture, painted and cleaned up. Come in and check it out. It looks awesome!

Youth Lounge Official Dedication a Success
On Tues. Nov. 1, 2005 more than 70 people gathered for the official opening of the Jackie Novak Youth Lounge. With the room decorated and with teens in every corner, we blessed the new space and hung the mezzuzah on the door. The new lounge is set with a big screen TV, DVD/VCR player, pool table, foosball table, 2 couches, a conference table and chairs, a piano, computers, and so much more!

Students affixed a mezzuzah to the door of the Youth Lounge during the dedication ceremony Many students showed up for the opening party

A big thank you to everyone who made this new teen space possible. We are so grateful for all the donations. If you have any questions about the youth lounge please contact Michelle Berkowitz at 858-535-1144 ext. 3100.

Jackie Novak's Biography
Jackie Novak was always known for his smile. It was radiant, and truly reflected his love of life and people. He woke up every morning with that smile already on his face.

Jackie enjoyed school, even if a bit too challenging at times, was an excellent golfer and ping-pong player, and enjoyed an occasional trip.
Family was very important in his life, and he was also Jewish throughout. Beth Israel was his religious and social home. It was here that he received his religious education, celebrated both his Bar Mitzvah and Confirmation, and was active in the Congregation's youth groups in both his junior and senior high years.

He always liked being with other Jewish schoolmates, and for Jackie, a teen lounge at Beth Israel would have been a perfect place just to "hang-out".

Sadly, Jackie Novak died of cancer when he was a senior in high school. His parents established the Novak Charitable Trust, which has supported CBI in many areas, to honor his name and those activities he loved.
