Congregation Beth Israel Dor l' Dor Society & Leave a Jewish Legacy Program
Our heritage has been carefully and lovingly preserved by those who came before us. We are the inheritors of a proud past and now it is our turn to help secure the future. We have formed the Dor l' Dor Society (Generation to Generation) to honor those who have either made an outright endowment gift to the Congregation, become Life Members or have told us they have included the synagogue in their estate plan. These gifts help build our Endowment Fund and ensure that our synagogue remains a cornerstone of Jewish life in San Diego and the nation.
A gift in your will involves little sacrifice in the present, but guarantees our Jewish future. Our legacy, indeed our responsibility, is to follow in the footsteps of our predecessors, keeping our synagogue vibrant for our children and grandchildren.
Please add your name to the growing list of Dor l’Dor Society members and help us plant for generations to come. You may complete and return the form below or call Stuart Simmons at 858-535-1111, ext. 3113.
Tzedakah, Our Righteous Duty
Tzedakah is the Hebrew word for the acts we call in English charity. However, the nature of tzedakah is different from the idea of charity. "Charity" suggests benevolence and generosity, a magnanimous act by the wealthy for the benefit of the poor and needy.
While this is important and good, the truer meaning of the word tzedakah is righteousness, justice or fairness. In Judaism, giving to help others is not only viewed as generous or magnanimous, rather we see it as the performance of a duty.
Performing tzedakah can be fulfilled in many ways. By giving money to the poor, to health care institutions, special causes, educational institutions and yes, to synagogues.
We invite you to learn about the many ways you can perform tzedakah at CBI and we welcome your generous support.
