Religious School Teachers
Geula Hebron
Geula Hebron, a native Israeli, has been teaching Hebrew for more than 35 years. She received her teaching certification in Haifa, Israel. She also took numerous other teaching courses in Israel as well as Hebrew language Instruction Course from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. Since 2002 she has participated in the NETA program and has been taking courses in Hebrew Language Education Leadership: Teaching Hebrew as a second language in Middle and High School. Since 1999 Geula has been the Hebrew Coordinator and Hebrew teacher for Torah High School. In 2006/07 she was a NETA school consultant in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Geula also teaches reading and conversational Hebrew to adult groups. In the years 2004-2008 she taught adults at Congregation Beth El and since 2009 she has been teaching adults at Tarburton-Israeli Cultural Center of San Diego.
 
Tamara Gordon
Tamara just recently relocated to San Diego from the Bay Area, she is excited to become part of CBI and is looking forward to teaching third graders Hebrew. She has a B.A. and a California Teaching Credential from CSU Stanislaus. Tamara has experience both as a classroom and a substitute teacher.
Tamara grew up in Stockton, California. Where she was very active in Temple Israel, one of California’s oldest synagogues. There she taught for a number of years both Judaica and Hebrew studies to fourth and fifth graders. When she is not teaching, she spends her time with family, reading her favorite mysteries, and scrapbooking. Last year she married Paul Gordon.
 
Lara Eisenberg

Lara Eisenberg has many years of experience as a Youth Counselor and Yoga Instructor, in San Diego.  She holds dual Masters degrees in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University. Lara is a certified Yoga Instructor, Meditation teacher and Integrative Yoga Therapist.

Lara will be teaching “Jewish Yoga” at Temple Beth Israel.  She combines the practice of yoga (using body and breath) with Jewish values and traditional and mystical Jewish wisdom. Students experience themselves through the study of meditation, Jewish wisdom and yoga. The wisdom from these two traditions helps  to integrate mind, body and soul. Gaining strength and deeper awareness of self leads to an increase in self-confidence.

Lara has a vision of world peace and feels one must find it within first.  She is passionate about teaching youth how to use their inner resources to cope with life’s challenges.

 
Alexandra Simon

Alexandra Simon recently relocated to San Diego from Jacksonville, Florida where she taught high school Spanish and tutored elementary school students in reading. She has her B.A. in Spanish from Florida State University and is a professionally certified teacher in the state of Florida and will soon hold her California credential. Alexandra begins the Master’s program in Latin American Studies at SDSU this fall where she plans to research the Jewish Dominican population. She also enjoys theatre, arts & crafts, going to the movies, and traveling. Mrs. Simon is excited to share her passion for teaching with the religious school students at Beth Israel!

Most Saturdays Congregation Beth Israel holds Shabbat services in the mornings at 10:00 a.m. and afternoons at 4:00 p.m. in our beautiful Glickman-Galinson sanctuary. These services celebrate the Bar/Bat Mitzvahs of our members and are open to the entire community. Please join us and celebrate Shabbat!
