Preschool Snow day an Annual Favorite
Shalom Walk 2006 In Review
My Trip to Israel: by Judy Fisher (as told by her daughter Mariah)

Preschool Snow Day an Annual Favorite
It was a cold winter day in San Diego (only about 70 degrees) when the Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool students arrived dressed in snowsuits, with hats and mittens, accompanied by sleds and saucers. You might have thought we were in Chicago due to the amount of snow on our playground. Yes, it was our annual snow day. Each February we have Sabah the iceman come and blow over a ton of snow onto our playground. The children had so much fun, making snowballs, pushing each other on sleds and trying to make a snow person. This annual event is a wonderful way for our children to experience a winter day, complete with hot chocolate and s'mores.

Shalom Walk 2006 In Review
Ealry in the year the children from the Beth Israel Day School and the Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool gathered for the Third Annual Shalom Walk. Our students collected donations and per-lap pledges for laps walked/jogged/run around a special course located on the Beth Israel campus.

The event began with music and cheers. Grandparent Sponsors, wearing their complimentary event t-shirts, were invited to walk in the Honorary Grandparents Lap, and then the students were off and running.

This year's Shalom Walk proved to be a huge success – not only as a fundraiser, but also as a school and community spirit builder. Thanks to all who made Shalom Walk 2006 possible.

My Trip to Israel by Mariah Fisher (as told to my mom)
Written by Judy Fisher on May 11, 2005
Today we went to Israel and celebrated Israel's birthday. Israel is 57 years old. I think it's very young.

Miss Sarah walked us over to get our passports and get ready to go on the plane. When Miss Tessa checked my passport, she asked me where I was going, and I said, "Israel." I put my thumb print and my name in my passport. We watched a movie with Bert and Ernie. They sang "Rubber Ducky" in Hebrew.

We got off the plane and then got tickets to go on the bus. The bus went all over Israel. Miss Brenda said, "Everyone off the bus." We got off the bus and went to the Western Wall. I put a note into the special wall. It's special because we put notes into the wall with prayers to God. I can’t tell you my prayer because it's a secret. We put our hands and feet into the Dead Sea and it felt very salty. We tasted wine and it tasted sweet.

We dug in the sand in the sandbox and I found gold coins. My friend, Tikvah found a Hanukkiah and Jonas found a seder plate. Miss Debbie told us that everything we found will go into a museum so everyone can see it.

We did Israeli dancing in my room led by my teacher, Miss Sheree. We ate a special snack like they eat in Israel of cucumbers, strawberries and humus and pita and drank orange juice. It was yummy in my tummy.

We painted the top piece of a giant birthday cake for Israel in Miss Hayley's class. It wasn't real. We painted it on cardboard.

We made blue and white necklaces with Miss Dana. Blue and white are on Israel's flag. I gave the necklace I made to my mom. She liked it and wore it home.

Cantor Bernstein and Miss Tammy sang Hebrew songs with us like "We're Going to Pack our Bags and Go to Beautiful Yisrael" and "David Melech" and then the Cantor read "The Cat in the Hat" in Hebrew to us. We danced and held hands and sang "Achshav."

Next year, I want to go to Israel for real.
