About the Preschool
Preschool Children

The Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool is open to children 12 months to 5 years of age and is open to the community. It offers the very best in early childhood education providing a program rich in Jewish culture, tradition and values. The program accommodates approximately 100 students, with two-, three- and five-day programs as well as child care before and after classes. For more information, contact Tammy Vener, Early Childhood Education Director, at 858-535-1144 ext. 3120.

Congregation Beth Israel first demonstrated its commitment to early childhood education when it established the Sid Rubin Preschool in 1977. We provide an environment that helps children successfully separate from home and transfer trust from family to school. This is accomplished with nurturing love and attention to the developmental needs of very young children in a program rich in Jewish culture, tradition and values.

Grandparents Shabbat Was a Great Success
On November 2, the gates to the building opened and 100 grandparents filled the foyer of our school. The morning started with coffee, bagels and shmoozing. Many people were surprised to see old friends who also had children in the preschool.
The grandparents were escorted to their grandchildren's classrooms where they spent time reading stories, doing art and playing with their grandchildren. Shabbat in the Foster Family Chapel was a highlight. The grandparents had an opportunity to experience Shabbat with their grandchildren. Cantor Bernstein, Rabbi Berk and Rabbi Ettman led us in a joyous celebration with music, dancing, story telling and the blessings. We look forward to this day each year! Preschool Picnickers Get A Taste of the New School Year

Preschool families gathered together in September to meet teachers, visit new classrooms and picnic with friends. It was great to have everyone back to school! The preschool playground was buzzing with excitement as all the children picnicked, played and got ready for a great year of preschool.

Support the Preschool...at No Cost to You
The Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool at Congregation Beth Israel participates in several fund-raising programs that would appreciate your help.

Box Tops for Education – simply clip "Box Tops" coupons from hundreds of participating products and bring them to CBI. We have a special drop box in the school office. Our preschool earns 10 cents for each Box Top redeemed.

Cartridges for Kids – recycle your empty inkjet/laser cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, PDS/Palm Pilots, and iPods. The preschool collects these items and turns them in for cash!

eScrip – Register your Vons Club card and personal credit cards on-line and a percentage of your purchases will automatically be credited to our account. Go to www.escrip.com, click on "sign-up" and enter our Group ID# 137629034.

Embrace a Family
Each year our preschool adopts seven families, one for each class, throuh Jewish Family Service's Embrace a Family program. We are given the family profile, and the parents and children from each class create a special holiday package for their family. One of our primary goals in the preschool is to begin the teaching of mitzvot and tzedakah. We always try to create projects that are meaningful even to the smallest child. Our children help make cards and wrap the presents.
