Teaching Staff
Bree Ceretto
Born and raised in San Diego, Bree has wanted to be an educator since childhood. Joining CBI first as a summer counselor during college, Bree is now in her fifth year of teaching at the preschool. Bree has a background in elementary education and a teaching credential from The University of Arizona and loves being a teacher in the preschool. Married in October 2011, Bree enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends.
hayley.cerone Hayley Cerone
Hayley is a San Diego native, the youngest of 4 children, loved growing up in SD. She attended college at the University of Arizona where she explored an interdisciplinary study program with a focus on psychology, sociology and family studies/human development. She has worked as a chef and loves playing in the kitchen. She also loves her dog, Chai! She is thrilled to join the Preschool team, working with the 18-30mo. old class this year!
Deborah Chait
Deborah has worked at the preschool for seven years. She was born and raised in Mexico City where she worked as Montessori preschool teacher. Moving to Israel she lived in a kibbutz and then in Tel Aviv where she helped open the first Montessori preschool in Israel. She has lived in San Diego for 15 years. She lives with her husband Cyrus and her children Andres and Dario.

Nina Caballero
 Niña is happy and excited to be teaching at the Bill & Sid Rubin Preschool for a second year. She has taught for 9 years in the school and hospital setting.  Nina also teaches Hip Hop dance to both children and adults.  Niña also teaches Hip Hop dance to both children and adults.  She holds a dual Master's degree from Fordham University in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education.  Since relocating from New York, Nina is enjoying exploring all the beaches, farmer's markets, hikes, people, and fun that San Diego has to offer.

Brenda Favish
Brenda was born and raised in South Africa, earning her teaching degree from the Johannesburg College of Education. She moved to the USA in 1978 and has been in early childhood education for 28 years. Brenda is currently co-chair of the San Diego Reggio Roundtable and continues to be committed to incorporating the Reggio Emilia approach into the classroom. She has earned the Advanced Pedagogic Award 3 times.

julie.gardner Julie Gardner
Julie grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, attended college at Emory University earning her degree in Psychology, and then pursued her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Vanderbilt. She moved to San Diego to be with her now husband, Andrew, in 2000. She taught in the Beth Israel Day School, and took time off to be with her 2 young daughters, Elizabeth & Katelyn. She is excited to be back in the ‘teaching world’ in such a warm and caring community. In her free time, Julie loves to be with her family, visit local San Diego sites, and reading…when she finds a spare moment!
Eva Holland
Eva was born and raised in San Diego. She grew up in a family blessed with many early childhood educators. Eva has worked at the Bill & Sid Rubin Preschool for five years and is currently studying child development and psychology. She enjoys being outdoors hiking and camping with her friends and family. She also has a great love and appreciation for music and art.
rachael.holland Rachael Holland 
I have enjoyed working with children for many years and am very happy to be at Beth Israel Preschool this year. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am constantly inspired by children. I have always loved reading and enjoy sharing my love of quality books with children. I also have a great appreciation for music, gardening and nature.
Dmumit Hose
Dmumit is the preschool's Music and Movement specialist, providing personalized instruction to each class on a weekly basis.
Sheree Meyerowitz
Sheree was born and raised in South Africa. She graduated with her teaching degree from the Johannesburg College of Education in 1977.
Sheree earned her teaching diploma in classical ballet through the London Royal Academy of Dance and runs her own Dance Academy for young children. In 1996 Sheree, her husband and three children immigrated to San Diego. She has taught preschool in San Diego for the past 14 years."I am passionate about my work with young children. I make deliberate and conscious decisions in expanding my experiences that lead to new growth and learning."
jill.modiano Jill Modiano
Jill joined the preschool's teaching team in 2008 after moving from St. Louis, MO, with her husband and two children. She taught at United Hebrew Congregation's preschool in St. Louis for six years and at the religious school for five. She took an active roll chairing outreach groups and arranging programming for preschool parents. Jill was the art director at Temple Israel's summer camp in St. Louis for six years, teaching children age from 18 months to 9 years.
phoebe.pynchon Phoebe Pynchon
Originally from Sacramento, Phoebe has spent the last few years in San Luis Obispo, earning her degree in Child Development from Cal Poly.  She has worked with children in a variety of settings, but her passion for helping children with special needs will soon lead her to pursue a master's degree in Occupational Therapy.  Meanwhile, she is enjoying life by the beach here in sunny San Diego!

Vered Schuster
In her fifth year at Beth Israel, Vered is delighted to be working with Bree Cerone. Vered was born in Israel and has a degree in Criminal Justice from San Diego State University. While Vered loves her time at Beth Israel she also loves spending time with her beautiful and loving 11 year old daughter, Maya.
Irina Shamilova
Irina was born in Baku, Azerbaijan (USSR). There she became a nurse and physical therapist working with children and she continued to work with kids throughout her whole life. In 1992 she moved to the U.S. with her husband and daughter, Kristina and 5 years later she became an American Citizen. Irina’s family moved to San Diego in 1999, and after she finished studying childhood education, she began teaching at CBI in 2005. CBI is like a home to her because not only does she work in the preschool here, but she also works as a banquet assistant at CBI. She enjoys photography, especially capturing the special moments throughout a child’s day. If you ask Irina why she loves her job, her answer would be quite simple, “I love my job because I love kids.”
Jackie Snoyman
Jackie was born and raised in South Africa, earning a teaching degree from the Johannesburg College of Education and working in elementary school education for five years. She and her husband Geoff immigrated to San Diego in 1982 and have two daughters. Jackie attended Mesa College to earn a credential in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching at CBI for the past 20+ years. She enjoys traveling, reading, theater, swimming and yoga. Jackie also enjoy spending time with her precious grandson, Rami.
Lynn Thedell
A life-long resident of San Diego, Lynn loves working with children. She especially enjoys the jokes and funny things they say. Lynn's favorite thing to do with children is to read with them. Her education background includes a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's degree in education. Lynn is happily married. She and Greg just welcomed their first daughter, Mary!

Most Saturdays Congregation Beth Israel holds Shabbat services in the mornings at 10:00 a.m. and afternoons at 4:00 p.m. in our beautiful Glickman-Galinson sanctuary. These services celebrate the Bar/Bat Mitzvahs of our members and are open to the entire community. Please join us and celebrate Shabbat!
