Being a Young Jewish Adult means we must see the relevance that Judaism has in all matters and elements of our lives.

Part II - Speaking Up, Speaking Out, Speaking Jewish
This half of the class will be dedicated to exploring the rich and important Social Justice elements of our tradition. We, as Reform Jews, are direct inheritors of the Prophetic tradition and are compelled, as such, to speak truth to power. We will be looking at the Jewish response to many contemporary issues as well as learning how to use our voice for change, question and purpose.

This section of the class will conclude with our Confirmation Trip to Washington, DC to the Religious Action Center's L'Takein Seminar (Feb. 27 - March 1, 2009). More information will to follow and assistance will be available for this important and life-changing trip.

Confirmation Program
Students in 10th grade learn about our heritage and tradition through the study of the Torah portions. Our goal is to help students develop an understanding of Jewish ethics for today's world.

The tenth graders explore Judaism in depth and strive to define their personal Jewish philosophy and theology. Confirmands celebrate their commitment to Jewish life in a service on Shavuot Eve.

Confirmation Class of '07 Goes to Washington, D.C.
The Confirmation Class of '07 went to the RAC (Religious Action Center) Program, L'Taken, in Washington D.C. for a weekend to learn about Social Justice, Lobbying, and the Reform Movement's position on political hot topics. Read all about this awesome trip!

Tenth Grade Confirmation Inspires All in Attendance
Our tenth grade Confirmation service at CBI is always an uplifting and extraordinary experience and this coming year's will be no different. On Erev Shavu'ot, May 28, 2009, our tenth grade students will lead the congregation in prayer through a service of their own creation. Members of the class chant the Ten Commandments and parts of the Scroll of Ruth as they are confirmed in their Jewish identity and their commitment to the Jewish community. Participation in the Confirmation comes with honor and recognition well deserved.

This year, the Confirmation class will continue to study Jewish social ethics and values and considerehow they apply to various contemporary issues. The highlight of this program will be a four-day trip to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C. with two hundred kids from Reform congregations around the U.S. Our students will study a variety of current questions including Jewish views on Homosexuality, The Global AIDS Crisis, Reproductive Rights and The Realities of Sweatshops. They will learn the techniques of lobbying and then meet with aides of our Federal legislators. It will be an eye opening and confidence building experience.

The class also looks at issues of identity, sexual values, anti-Semitism, and mixed marriage and read sections of Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Ruth and Esther. The final effort of the year is to create the Confirmation Service.

The members of the Confirmation class represented a bit more than half of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah class. They are young people who choose to continue in our school either for the love of Jewish learning or because of their deep bond to their peers and to our synagogue community. They are a special group whose ongoing involvement with study and synagogue life holds out the promise that they will be our core leaders in the future.
