Celebrate Israel at 60 with CBI and Community Events
 
We invite you to join with us in engaging with Israel as she celebrates 60 years of independence. We hope each of you will begin or renew a meaningful connection with the Jewish homeland during this significant landmark year.

Here at CBI the Stand With Israel Committee emphasizes the importance of our bond with the State of Israel and her people. Learn more about Israel and participate in current and upcoming events by checking these links:
  • CBI's Israel Through Our Eyes photo exhibit

  • A special presentation on Israel by Rabbi William Berk at Erev Shabbat services on Friday, May 9. Rabbi William Berk is the brother of CBI's Rabbi Michael Berk and a rabbinic fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem.

  • Join with your CBI community to Walk the Land at the JCC on Sunday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. Celebrate Israel's 60th birthday and help build a safe high school in Sha'ar Ha'Negev, San Diego's partnership region in Israel. $5 is all it takes to register - and you get a hat and a water bottle! Register online or call 858-571-3444. Be sure to indicate Congregation Beth Israel as your group affiliation and select the 2:00 p.m. walk.

6. Contribute to CBI's OneFamily Fund
The OneFamily fund assists victims of terror. All monies raised go to the families in Israel. Read about our current family and how we are helping.

7. Visit the UJF Israel Center Online
The United Jewish Federation (UJF) of San Diego County Israel Center is the focal point for Israel-related activities in San Diego. The Center is your direct link to rich Israeli culture, numerous travel and volunteer options, engaging with San Diego's sister community of Shaar Hanegev, community events and projects, Aliyah and much more. The Center is pleased to present programs such as the Teen Travel to Israel, Israel travel scholarships, and an Israel@60 Committee which will coordinate a dynamic calendar of events celebrating Israel's 60th year of statehood. You can also contribute to the Israel Emergency Campaign of the UJF. One hundred percent of all contributions to these programs will be sent to Israel without any deductions for overhead.

The mission of the Stand with Israel Committee is to uphold and strengthen the solidarity of Congregation Beth Israel with the State of Israel and its people. The historical bond that exists between the Diaspora and the State of Israel is covenanted in the Bible and renewed daily by Jewish prayer and values.

  • We will champion and advocate support of Israel and the involvement of our congregational community through outreach and educational programs.

  • We will create and publicize opportunities to enhance the spiritual, social and financial well being of Israel.

  • We will increase awareness of the importance of Israel's existence to our lives and to our shared future by providing a forum for speakers and writers.

  • We will actively encourage our congregants to become engaged in the American political arena to maintain a strong relationship between the United States and Israel, a relationship based on the democratic ideals that both nations share.

  • We will work to gain support of Israel in the world political arena.
