Judaism "Down Under" : A Glimpse at the Progressive Jewish Communities of Australia and New Zealand

Some interesting facts about Australian Jewry: The oldest synagogue in the Southern Hemisphere is in Hobart, Tasmania, and is affiliated with the Progressive Movement. There were 16 Jews on the first convict transport to Australia from England. The first Australian born Governor General, Sir Isaac Isaacs, was Jewish.

Come and learn more about the Jewish communities in Australia and New Zealand. Janice Alper was based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia as Executive Director of the Union for Progressive Judaism from 2004-2007, serving Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

JFS Senior Center Located at CBI

University City Senior Center, a program of Jewish Family Service of San Diego, provides programs for seniors three days a week, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Enjoy a day of social, cultural, educational and recreational programs with a nutritionally balanced kosher lunch. Exercise your mind, body and soul.
