Zionist Congress Elections
Every four years, each Jewish adult across the world has the opportunity and responsibility to participate in the World Zionist Congress elections. We at CBI, the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), and the Association of Reform Zionists of America (ARZA) cannot stress enough the importance of your vote.
We at Congregation Beth Israel need all of our members to join in supporting the Reform Movement in Israel by registering and voting. It will take only a few minutes of your time and a $7 registration fee, which covers the cost of the elections. Please visit www.VoteReformJudaism.com, follow the links, and register today or register by mail. On page 72 of the most recent copy of Reform Judaism Magazine you will find a registration form. Send this in no later than January 15, 2006.
Representation at the World Zionist Congress is decided by voting in the World
Zionist Organization (WZO). These elections determine how millions of dollars
are spent and numerous policies are made in Israel: Delegates at the World
Zionist Congress decide the leadership of such organizations as the Jewish
Agency, the Jewish National Fund, and United Jewish Appeal.
As a Reform movement, we will stand up for our values and beliefs. The Reform
Movement's victories in past WZO elections have helped to:
- Increase respect and support for ARZA, the Zionist voice of the
Reform Movement;
- Support Progressive Jews across the Former Soviet Union and Israel;
- Train Israel's next generation of Reform Rabbis;
- Develop Reform Jewish programming on six continents;
- Provide funding for the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC),
our legal advocacy arm in Israel;
- Provide almost two million dollars in annual funding to Israeli Reform Jewish projects
- Strengthen the voice for pluralism within Israeli society.
Take it one step further and encourage
all those in your household and social circles who are also Jewish and
will be 18 or over by June 2006 to do the same. When the official ballot
comes (via e-mail) beginning in late fall, we hope you will vote the
Reform (ARZA) Platform.
URJ President Eric Yoffie had this to say about the election: “The WZO not only gives us a platform to express our views, it also supplies the resources that we desperately need.”
Thank you in advance for doing your part to protect your movement, your values,
and your Israel. For more information on the election, visit the Association
of Reform Zionists of America (ARZA) website. If you have any questions,
need a paper copy of the registration form, or would like to help encourage others
to vote, please contact the rabbis' offices. go to top
