Volunteers of the Year Awards
to Julie Fox and Judi Schwartz

We are very fortunate to have so many hard working volunteers at CBI. Every year we acknowledge and recognize one or more outstanding members as Volunteers of the Year. These individuals have distinguished themselves over many years of steadfast commitment to the synagogue. Perhaps they should be called the “volunteers of the decade!”

Julie Fox
Julie Fox (pictured on left) became a member of CBI in 1982 after being involved in the Mixed Doubles interfaith couples program and converted to Judaism the same year. She was part of the first Adult B’nai Mitzvah class at CBI in 1985. She has been a WBI Board member for more than 25 years, serving as secretary for 15 years and vice president for the past two years.

She has served on the Shalom Committee and Membership Committee, the Career Women’s Network Committee, the Rabbinic Search Committee of 1993-94; was the first chair of the Outreach Committee; has served as secretary of the Social Action Committee for six years, has chaired and co-chaired many WBI, Social Action and CBI projects and events.

Judi Schwartz
Judi Schwartz (pictured on right) joined CBI in 1981 to participate in the Mixed Doubles interfaith couples program. She was a member of the Adult B’nai Mitzvah class of 2004. She has worked tirelessly for Women of Beth Israel, serving as its president for four years and currently as treasurer. She has led workshops for interfaith couples, served on our first Outreach Committee, as well as the Festivals Committee and Beth Israel Day School committees.

She has mentored Adult B’nai Mitzvah students, designed committee and event brochures, coordinated Chavurah Shabbats, Cabaret Night concerts, Safrai Art Exhibits, women’s seders and Teacher/Staff Appreciations.

She volunteers regularly for various social action projects and currently serves on CBI’s Board of Directors. Congregation Beth Israel presents the Volunteer of the Year Award annually to one or more outstanding volunteers:
