May 2008 Update on the Search for a Director of Congregational Learning
The Director of Congregational Learning (DCL) Search Committee has been active since February, meeting as frequently as three times a week. The position was posted with NATE (National Association of Temple Educators) and CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis), as well as on Jewish Jobs.com. Our application has generated a great deal of interest among an impressive range of applicants. We have received and reviewed more than 30 resumes, conducted seven telephone interviews, and have had two candidates, thus far, come for on-site interviews.
The process for on-site interviews has included opportunities for candidates to meet individually with Senior Staff members and for a second, in-person, interview with the DCL Search Committee. Candidates who progress to a second on-site visit meet with Religious School teachers, students, Senior Staff, and parents representing the Religious School community.
We have interviewed talented and capable educators, are checking references and doing our due diligence, continually discussing our dreams for congregational education as well as reviewing our needs, in the quest to find the right match for our congregation.

The Search for a Director of Congregational Learning
In March, Rabbi Berk, together with Dr. Barbara Lounsbury, formed the Director of Congregational Learning Search Committee. Members of the search committee are: Rabbi Berk, Dr. Lounsbury (chair), Amy Corton (ex officio), Bob Filderman, Lisa Foster, Cynthia Fram, Audrey Levine, Liz Levine, Samara Muller-Peters, Beth Tabor, and Joellyn Zollman. Biographical information on members of the search committee can be found on this Web site.
The search committee began meeting in March, and CBI submitted its application to the (Reform movement’s) National Association of Temple Educators (NATE).
The Search Committee is in the process of reviewing resumes and conducting phone interviews with applicants. The Search Committee will then invite selected applicants for on site interviews and visits and conduct reference checks and due diligence on candidates. The goal is to make a recommendation to the Board for approval by June 2008. Updates on the search will be posted periodically on this Web site.
