Sherwin Chasen
Sherwin and his wife Lynette retired in 1999, and moved to Carlsbad from Kansas City. They have been active members of CBI since 2000, are coordinators for their Chavurah, host the Shalom Table, have participated in many social action projects, and Kehillah Callers. Sherwin has been active in various other volunteer work including serving as Membership Chairman and member of the Board of his Kansas City congregation (B’nai Jehudah), Board Member of Junior Achievement, volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Pals, and Special Olympics, and most recently coordinated all the volunteer training for the URJ Biennial.
Originally born in Chicago, Sherwin and his family moved to Kansas City in 1973 to assume the position of Director of Marketing for United Computing Systems (a division of Sprint), and later became VP of Human Resources and Strategic Planning. The last 12 years prior to retirement, Sherwin was VP Strategic Planning for a division of Total, a major international chemical company, where he was responsible for strategic and business planning and new business development. Sherwin earned an MBA degree from Rockhurst College.
Lynette and Sherwin were married in 1960, have two married sons and six grandchildren. Their elder son Jeffrey, an attorney, is the President and COO of a human resources training company in Tulsa, OK. Their younger son, Kenneth, is senior rabbi of the Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles.

Amy Corton
Amy Corton, President of the Board, has been involved in Congregation Beth Israel for many years. She served as Treasurer and Vice President of Endowment, and was involved in the Beth Israel Day School Parent Advisory Board when her children attended the school. She was honored as a Volunteer of the Year in 2005.
Amy is a Development and Planning Consultant. She has worked in the past for Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties and built their Planned Giving Program which now has more than 100 members. She also wrote grants for Planned Parenthood and was involved in raising money for their recent Capital Campaign. Prior to working at Planned Parenthood she was the Chair of the Board of Directors from 1996-1998 and served as Treasurer of the Board of Directors prior to becoming Chair.
She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Women's Division of the United Jewish Federation and is a member of the San Diego Foundation's Women's Foundation where she previously served as Governance Committee Chair.
Amy earned a Law Degree from Emory University School of Law and graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in Economics. She began her law career in New York City and moved to San Diego in 1988 where she joined Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison as a lawyer.
Amy and her husband, Carl Eibl, have two children and live in La Jolla.

Deb DeBow
Deborah DeBow is a native of the San Francisco/Bay Area and a Cal (UC Berkeley) alumnus. She is married to Herb Weissman, Ph.D., who is a clinical and forensic psychologist and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCD and UCSD. They have one child, Benjamin, who is a sophomore at San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA). The family moved to San Diego area from Sacramento in 1999, for the quality and variety of life—especially in the arts, the Jewish community and the educational institutions.
CBI’s educational, religious, musical and social programs and its friendly congregation, inspired the Weissman family to join the synagogue four years ago. Deb joined the Social Action Committee in 2005 and is in her second year as its chair. Her focus has been on environmental awareness, including the well-attended programs on global warming and alternative vehicles/fuels.
Deb has been a practicing lawyer since 1978, first in private practice and then as Principal Counsel to the California State Legislature’s Assembly Judiciary Committee. In San Diego. She uses her lawyer skills part-time in various family business activities. She served as the President of the Sacramento County Bar Association in 1995 and before that as president of the Sacramento Law Foundation, Sacramento Women Lawyers and Feminist Legal Services (co-founder).
An avid environmentalist, gardener and lawyer, Deb combines these interests by representing the California Native Plant Society (San Diego Chapter) on the Citizens Advisory Board of the San Dieguito River Park and also on its Plan Review Committee. She has been active in the SDJA PTO, serving in various capacities.

Sanford G. Feldman, M.D.
Dr. Sanford G. (Sandy) Feldman, Vice President for Transition, and his family have been members of Congregation Beth Israel for 15 years. Sandy recently co-chaired the Rabbinic Search Committee that selected Rabbi Michael Berk and now coordinates our rabbinic transition as a member of the Executive Committee. He participated on two previous Rabbinic Search Committees and on the Assistant Rabbi Search Committee. In 2007, he was one of two recipients of CBI's Volunteer of the Year award.
Sandy was co-chair of the Worship Subcommittee of the Long Range Planning Committee
and is a former chair of the T'filah/Worship Committee. He teaches a course
called "Do You Have to Believe in God to Be Jewish?" in both the Hebrew
High School and ALEINU adult education programs and another ALEINU course called "God
and the Human Brain." He has been actively engaged in many current CBI programs
such as the popular Friday Night Chai Music Shabbat services and his participation
in the former Destination Shabbat program, the Children's Choir concert, Cabaret
Night and Show B.I.S. (Beth Israel Students) was invaluable.
Sandy's wife, Janine, is a former CBI Board Member, former chair and current
member of the ALEINU: Adult Learners Network Committee, and a teacher of Torah
and Jewish ethics in the ALEINU and Hebrew High School programs. Their sons,
Michael and J.B., held leadership positions in BITY (Beth Israel Temple Youth)
before moving on to college, where they remain active as leaders at their respective
Hillel chapters. They both participated in CBI's Religious School, Bar Mitzvah
and Confirmation programs.
Sandy is an ophthalmologist and founder/director of One-to-One LASIK in
San Diego. He graduated cum laude from Stanford University, AOA from the UCLA
School of Medicine, and trained at the Jules Stein Eye Institute where he is
now an Associate Clinical Professor. He served as National Secretary for Public
Information for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and as a branding consultant
for medical associations. He worked as a medical reporter and producer for NBC's
Today program and has co-authored a nationally syndicated radio program, newspaper
column and book on self-help health care.

Robert Filderman
After graduating from Dartmouth College and completing a tour of duty as an officer in the U.S. Army, Bob began a career in
the securities industry. The final 35 years of his career were spent in senior management positions at EF Hutton & Co.,
Shearson Bros. and Prudential Securities, concentrating on recruiting, interviewing and hiring qualified individuals into the
retail brokerage system. Also, at EF Hutton, Bob was President of a financial services subsidiary that he developed and
managed from formation to national profitability in four years. As National Director of Recruiting at Prudential Securities,
Bob was responsible for transferring his recruitment and interviewing expertise to others.
Bob served on the Rabbinic Search Committee
that selected Rabbi Michael Berk.
He and his wife, Marilyn, joined CBI in 1982 when they moved to San Diego. Bob
and Marilyn are members of a Chavurah and active participants in the Saturday morning Minyan.
go to top Judy Fisher
Judy Fisher is a technical writer and editor, and has worked at IBM as
well as many software companies. She and her family have been active members
of CBI for 5 years and she has been primarily involved in the Tikkun Olam/Social
Action Committee. Judy coordinated publicity, served as co-chair for one
year, is now serving as the sole chairperson of the SAC, has taught and
tutored Hebrew in our Religious School and is currently teaching beginning
and prayer book Hebrew in the ALEINU program. Judy has also been a member
of the Stand With Israel Committee, and is currently a member of Women
of Beth Israel and B’yachad Chavurah.
Judy has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel
Hill, where she majored in English and Religion, with a concentration in
Judaic Studies. She spent her junior year at Machon Greenberg in Jerusalem.
Judy grew up in Monroeville, Pa. (a suburb of Pittsburgh), where her family
was active at Temple David.
Judy and her family have visited Israel many times during the past several
years, including working with Israeli software companies. She has been
married for 26 years to Tom Fisher, an executive at Qualcomm. They have
three children: Michael, 19, a freshman at San Diego State University;
Rebecca, 15, a sophomore at Scripps Ranch High School and a member of this
year’s Confirmation Class; and Mariah, 4, a student in the Bill & Sid
Rubin Preschool at CBI.

Cynthia Fram
Cynthia Fram has worked in the Human Resources field for over 15 years. She is
the Human Resources Generalist for the United Way of San Diego County. She earned
her B.A. in communications from The University of Oregon and her Certificate
in Human Resources Management from University of California at San Diego. Cynthia
grew up in Portland, Oregon, and moved to San Diego in 1995.
At Congregation Beth Israel, Cynthia has served on the Long Range Planning Committee,
the Rabbinic Search Committee that selected Rabbi Michael Berk, the Preschool
Parent Committee, and is a Chavurah coordinator. Cynthia is now involved with the Parent Committee at our Religious School.
