Dean Abelon
dean-abelonDean and Nancy Abelon became members of Congregation Beth Israel soon after moving to San Diego in 2000.  Dean has served on the Aleinu Committee for five years and in 2009 joined the Israel Committee. He is a former co-chair of Beth Israel’s Scholar-in-Residence program. Dean and Nancy participate in many of CBI’s lifelong Jewish education offerings and are inspired by the Minyan service on Shabbat morning.

A native of Maine, Dean served as an officer in the U.S. Navy following graduation from Brown University. He had a 42-year career in college development and alumni relations at Bowdoin and Hamilton colleges. He was a trustee of Temple Emanu-El in Utica, NY. Retired since 2009, Dean’s current civic activities include the USO and as a driver in the Rides and Smiles program, which is a component of On the Go, a program of Jewish Family Service.
