Emily Jennewein is president of Congregation Beth Israel. She and her family have been members since they moved to San Diego in 2001. Emily was Vice President for Education, she served on the search committee that selected Rabbi Michael Berk, and she co-chaired the search committee that selected Rabbi Michael Satz. She chaired A Musical Night in Jerusalem, which honored Cantor Arlene Bernstein for her first 10 years of service to the congregation. She also serves on the Finance and Communications committees.

Professionally, Emily is the principal of a website and marketing communications firm. She created CBI's website in 2002, served as the synagogue's volunteer webmaster for several years, and designed the temple's first weekly e-newsletter. In 2003, she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.

Emily earned an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and graduated from Amherst College. Emily lives in Del Mar with her husband Chris, who is senior regional editor for Southern California for AOL's Patch network of local news websites. Their daughters, Maddy and Penny, became b'not mitzvah and celebrated their confirmations at Beth Israel, and are currently college students. Emily also serves on the board of Hillel of San Diego.
